St. Pat's Ball

The St. Pat's Ball marked the end of the Festival. It was generally held in Davis Gym and attended by 500 couples. In contrast to the gay and festive mood of the previous day, the ball lent a serious and dignified note with its formal dress and big name bands like Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Tucker, and Woody Herman. At intermission, St. Patrick would crown the St. Pat's Queen (chosen from five senior women candidates). Following the Queen's coronation, all senior ceramic engineers and a selected group of outstanding ceramic industrialists and educators were knighted into the "Order of the Knights of St. Patrick" by St. Pat himself.
