1845 - 1959
Originally called North Hall, Burdick Hall was built north and east of the carillon. Initially used as a men’s dormitory and classrooms, in 1868 it was moved downhill to the present site of Kanakadea Hall. There, it was used for a grade school, part of the Union Free School District with courses taught by both university faculty and district school teachers. In 1883, disagreement befell this arrangement and the building was purchased by W.C. Burdick and moved further down the hill next to Kanakadea Creek and used as an apartment house. In 1896, now known as Burdick Hall, the building was loaned to Alfred University for a men’s residence hall and campus union until 1959 when it was partially destroyed by fire. Soon after it was torn down.
