1851
Built as a private home in 1851 by Samuel J. White for his daughter, Mrs. Serena Sayles, the Gothic in 1876 became university property and was used as a seminary, chapel and classrooms. By 1956, it had fallen into disrepair and funds for rehabilitating the structure were not available. Further, the site was selected that year for Herrick Memorial Library. Spearheaded by Miss Hazel Humphreys, the chapel section was dismantled and moved to a lot on the corner of Ford and Sayles Streets, with much of the funding donated by alumni. It is presently open for public use as an interdenominational chapel for church services. In 1978, application was made for its inclusion on the National Historic Register.
