The NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University established the Samuel R. Scholes Library in 1947. Upon completion of Harder Hall, it occupied the top floor of the building. Because of structural issues, a new facility of 54,000 square feet was constructed at the corner of Pine and State Streets. Scholes Library provides academic support for the art and engineering programs and is recognized internationally as a source of information on the art, science, technology, and history of ceramics and glass.
