Check out the Special Collections & Archives webpage to read a transcription of Vernon M. Babbitt’s diary. After fighting in the Civil war, he attended Alfred University and was graduated in 1871. His diary gives an excellent glimpse into early student life on campus. Especially notable are his mentions of visits by Sojourner Truth and Julia Ward Howe.
