TILT
Board@Alfred University
TILT
(The Texas Information Literacy Training) is an interactive, high-quality,
Web-based tutorial developed by the University Of Texas System Digital
Library. The libraries at Alfred University have adapted TILT
to work with Blackboard.
What
is Information Literacy?
Information Literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to
"recognize when information is needed and have the ability to
locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information." 1
Information Literacy is becoming an essential skill in a technologically-based
world where the library and the traditional publishing model is no
longer the only source of credible information dissemination. Information
Literacy, among other things, empowers individuals to discern credible
from suspect information in a society where information production
is increasingly decentralized.
Why
is Information Literacy important to Alfred University?
Information Literacy is an essential tool for any lifelong learner.
Because Alfred University is committed to fostering a spirit of inquiry
and search for knowledge, it is essential that we equip our students
with this important set of skills.
